During World Breastfeeding Week 2025 (1–7 August), U-Report Afghanistan launched a nationwide poll to engage adolescents, young mothers, and caregivers in conversations about breastfeeding. The poll aimed to raise awareness, dispel myths, and better understand community knowledge and practices around breastfeeding.
Thousands of U-Reporters across the country participated. The results revealed that a majority understood the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months and recognized its role in protecting children from diseases. However, the poll also highlighted areas needing improvement, such as awareness about continued breastfeeding up to two years, and the influence of traditional beliefs and social norms.
This valuable feedback helps UNICEF and partners design better communication strategies, strengthen support systems, and empower families, especially young mothers, to give every child the healthiest start in life.
